Please book a flight arriving in Christchurch before 11:00. On arrival in Christchurch, known as the Garden City for its distinctly British character, your guide will show you the historic Arts Centre, the Avon River and the Bridge of Remembrance. After lunch, travel to Lake Tekapo, whose turquoise water gets its colour from glacial rock flour and is framed by snow-capped mountains. Visit the lakeside Church of the Good Shepherd. In the evening, enjoy high-altitude salmon sashimi and stay in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, where you may see the Milky Way and stars. The coach leaves Christchurch promptly at 13; guests delayed by flights must arrange onward transport themselves. Hotel: character lodge/holiday home; each party is guaranteed a private bedroom, but not an entire holiday home. Lunch at own expense; dinner: high-altitude salmon buffet.
After breakfast, travel to Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, in the heart of the Southern Alps, with spectacular mountain and alpine scenery. In fine weather, you may take an optional scenic helicopter flight over glaciers and the mountains at your own expense. Continue to Lake Pukaki, a clear, jade-coloured lake and a favourite place to photograph Aoraki/Mount Cook. Visit Lake Wānaka, New Zealand’s fourth-largest lake, and its iconic lone tree standing in the water. Arrive in Queenstown, on the shore of Lake Wakatipu. Hotel: Holiday Inn Queenstown Remarkables Park or equivalent. Breakfast: hotel Western-style; lunch and dinner at own expense.
Enjoy a free day in Queenstown, a resort town among mountains and lakes. Optional ideas, all at your own expense, include visiting Glenorchy, a Lord of the Rings and Hobbit filming location; skydiving, bungee jumping, paragliding or jet boating; taking the gondola, a helicopter flight over mountains and glaciers, or visiting a winery. You may also stroll through town, enjoy street performances, coffee and lake views, and try the famous Fergburger. Hotel: Holiday Inn Queenstown Remarkables Park or equivalent. Breakfast: hotel Western-style; lunch and dinner at own expense.
After breakfast, check out independently and enjoy free time in Queenstown. Make your own way to the airport according to your flight schedule. No airport transfer is provided today. Breakfast: hotel Western-style; lunch at own expense.
