Kaikoura Whale Watching or Sea Fishing 1-Day Tour · Christchurch Round Trip
Travel from Christchurch to Kaikoura, visit the seal colony and choose one of two boat activities: whale watching or sea fishing. Return to Christchurch the same day. Boat operations depend on weather; children under 3 cannot join the boat activity under the boat operator’s rules.

Daily Itinerary
Meet at the designated location at 7:30 and travel to Kaikōura, a base for wildlife viewing. Ohau Point Seal Colony is a famous natural stop where seals of all sizes rest on the rocks. On arrival, choose one of two activities: Whale watching: a 3-hour marine whale-watching trip advertised with a 98% success rate. Sonar technology helps locate sperm whales or other whales surfacing to breathe. Dolphins, albatrosses and seals may also be encountered. Sea fishing: with fishing equipment prepared, enjoy fishing for species such as sea perch and blue cod, and check crayfish pots to learn about the local crayfish industry. Duration: 2.5h. Catches are not guaranteed; the captain distributes the catch fairly among guests. If weather cancels the sailing, refunds follow the attraction operator's rules. Choose a waterfront restaurant for fresh local seafood at your own expense. In the afternoon, visit the seal habitat to observe the animals at close range. Depart for Christchurch at 15 hours; arrive at the designated Christchurch location around 17:30, where the tour ends. Lunch: own expense. Dinner: own expense.
